WebEdward the Confessor was king of England for 24 years. He earned his nickname because of his religious devotion and was later made a saint. His death in 1066 led to the Norman Conquest of England. Early Life Edward was the son of King Ethelred II and Emma, the daughter of the duke of Normandy. Normandy was a region in what is now France. WebThe shrine of Saint Edward the Confessor remains where it was after the final translation of his body in the thirteenth century—at the heart of Westminster Abbey.
